Dr.Charles Houston

Dr.Charles Houston, fondly known as "Charlie", was the first PeaceCorps/India Country Director (circa 1962). He recently wrote a letter recollecting the impact that Peace Corp and India had on his life. But there is so much more in Charlie's life. In 2004, Charlie Houston was interviewed on the PBS program "NOW with Bill Moyers":
"Charlie Houston made history scaling some of the world's most towering mountains, became one of the world's foremost authorities on high altitude medicine, and helped developed a prototype for the artificial heart. As one of America's pioneering mountaineers, a prominent physician and naval flight surgeon, Houston's hunch about high-altitude flying would give America's pilots an edge and help defeat the armies of Hitler and the warlords of Japan.... (PBS NOW Oct 10 2004).
