The FRIENDS OF INDIA (FOI)
are Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs)
who served in India from 1961-1975, their families and friends, their Indian supervisors
and counterparts, former Peace Corps/India staff and anyone who might have an
interest in India and Peace Corps.
Founded in 1978, we are a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that does not
advertise.
Our membership is approximately 1472.
The goals of the Friends of India are:
|
|
- to continue to expand our understanding of India.
- to provide Returned Peace Corps Volunteers [RPCVs] from India, and others
interested in India and the Peace Corps, a channel of communication and
information via our newsletter and secure Website.
- to increase awareness and support of FOI charities:
- The Ecological Development Foundation
- Forgotten Children
- Father Fleming Foundation
For more information, see FOI Charities.
|
Also, we have supported village based programs and
kept former members in touch with one another. We support some charities in
India and work with groups here in the U.S. to support developmental,
educational and cultural efforts that promote positive relations between India
and the U.S. We hold an annual conference here in D.C. and work with the Indian
Embassy to support Indian focused events in D.C. Any fund raising efforts are
related to specific activities.
